"In the hectic days of university life, students are constantly faced with many pressures whether externally or internally. We face the pressures of assignments, financial problems, peers, family, identity crisis and even self inflicted problems like relationships. When studying overseas, there is an even added burden. You are surrounded by unfamiliarity, clouded by confusion and enveloped in loneliness and homesickness. In the face of these predicaments one has choices on how to face it. Whether you are strong and be extremely patient in facing every single challenges or you are weak and bow down to the whispers of syaitan and will lament and become bitter and unforgiving...."

Sedikit fakta mengenai Fiji : -

Fiji became independent in 1970, after nearly a century as a British colony. Democratic rule was interrupted by two military coups in 1987, caused by concern over a government perceived as dominated by the Indian community (descendants of contract laborers brought to the islands by the British in the 19th century). A 1990 constitution favored native Melanesian control of Fiji, but led to heavy Indian emigration; the population loss resulted in economic difficulties, but ensured that Melanesians became the majority. Amendments enacted in 1997 made the constitution more equitable. Free and peaceful elections in 1999 resulted in a government led by an Indo-Fijian, but a coup in May 2000 ushered in a prolonged period of political turmoil. Parliamentary elections held in August 2001 provided Fiji with a democratically elected government and gave a mandate to the government of Prime Minister Laisenia QARASE.

"How Not All Muslims Are The Same - Diversity In The Ummah - Culture, Language and Race"

I could never ever remember where this dream started, but I have always wanted to be on my own, far off in a distant country, studying in a university, being excellent, beautiful, happy, with friends. Maybe this all originated from my stay in the United States. I had the time of my life, meeting different kinds of people and seeing so many different kinds of sights and sounds. Seeing my parents so successful and making everyone proud at home. This inspired me. How could I forget the beautiful autumn, the white winter, colourful flowers in spring and the hot, hot, happy summer days with many barbeques in parks? Running carefree with my family down the hills and hitting trees on the way down when sledding on a hill, they are all memories etched in my mind forever. Everything seems picturesque, ideal, and beautiful..

And of course I could not also forget the many trips to the local mosque which was quite far away but we will always make an effort to go regularly. For the first time, I realised, Muslims are not only brown like me. Back home in Malaysia, all Muslims were generally Malays. But in the United States, Ma’sya Allah, they speak distinct exotic languages, have different skin colours, they even have different ways of celebrating Eid. However despite these distinct physical differences, I realised we are all spiritually the same. Especially during prayer times, all of us would gather and join the Imaam to do our obligatory prayers. At that moment, there was no difference between any of us, we were all speaking the same language, performing the same actions and in our hearts glorified the same Creator. The power of faith transcends nationality, culture, gender and race. In essence every human being would like the same things, peace, happiness and prosperity.

Fast forward from reminiscing, I am in London, eventually coming to the point in my life which I have always dreamed of. I am in an exciting city with melting pot of cultures, doing a great course in a well renowned university that will surely make my country and family proud. However I feel a sense of lost, confusion, overwhelmed. It seems like the dream is shattered by reality. You realise that being away from everyone you love and away from everything you are familiar with is not as wonderful as you initially thought. The great course and well renowned university in reality does only offer you the status and prestige, it thrusts to your face challenges and teaches you independence. The loneliness sometimes breaks you down but then it teaches you the meaning of survival and strength. Despite the bleakness, there are bright days, moments when I am in the prayer room. I find again that familiar sense of comfort, like when I was in the United States, the similar unity in diversity. We are all sisters and brothers no matter where we have come from or what language we speak. And with this support, I go on. Cherishing life and thanking ALLAH for this precious gift, our Muslim ukhwahh (brotherhood and sisterhood).

GPTD Representative in New Zealand

Brother Yazid in the middle.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport - February 10, 2006 - World Civilization Research Group would like to say good luck to Brother Ahmad Yazid Hamdan who is fly to New Zealand tonight to continue his study in degree. He is planned to enrol in University of Caterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. GPTD feels proud of him because he agree to become our representative overthere. May success will always be with him InsyaAllah.

Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island, with a population of around 300 000. It is also, arguably, the most attractive city in New Zealand, with extensive inner city public and private gardens and parks, the shallow Avon river meandering though the city centre, and a pedestrian oriented downtown centred on Cathedral Square. It contains one of the two main international airports for the country, and is connected via a tunnel to a seaport at Lyttelton on Bank's Peninsula.

Hulur Sumbangan Bantu Warga Kemboja

Generasi muda harapan umat Islam Kemboja. Namun, kemudahan pendidikan agak terbatas.

Ketua GPTD Kemboja 1.

Laksamana Cheng Ho Exhibition

National Museum, Kuala Lumpur - Jan 27, 2006 - GPTD China visited exhibition entitled Treasure Fleet The Adventures of Laksamana Cheng Ho at National Museum to explore more about that great Chinese Muslim admiral. Among materials that had been exhibited were from National Geographic photographer, Michael Yamashita.

Laksamana Cheng Ho or Zheng He was born in 1371 in Kunyang, a town in southwest Yunnan Province. His family, named Ma, were part of a minority group known as the Semur. They originally came from Central Asia and followed the religion of Islam. Both his grandfather and father had made the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. Zheng He grew up hearing their accounts of travel through foreign lands.

Yunnan was one of the last strongholds of Mongol support, holding out long after the Ming Dynasty began. After Ming armies conquered Yunnan in 1382, Zheng He was taken captive and brought to Nanjing. The eleven year old boy was made a servant of the prince who would become the Yong Le Emperor. It was Yong Le who renamed the boy Zheng He.

Zheng He is described in Chinese historical records as tall and heavy, with "clear-cut features and long ear lobes; a stride like a tiger's and voice clear and vibrant." He was well liked and admired for his quick wit in argument. Moreover, he was a brave soldier. When his prince seized the Chinese throne from nephew, Zheng He fought well on his behalf. As a result, Zheng He became a close confidant of the new emperor and was given an important position at court.

The Yong Le emperor had ambitious plans. A vigorous man, he rebuilt the Great Wall to the condition in which it exists today. He also built his new capital at Beijing, next to the remains of the former Yuan capital. The emperor decided to go ahead with the sea voyages that had long been planned. He appointed Zheng He to lead them and gave him the title "Admiral of the Western Seas."

CPR Workshop

Anjung Rahmat - Jan 21, 2006 - GPTD had sent representative Bro. Wan Faizal bin Wan Rahimi Shah from Moscow Medical Academy, Russia to attend CPR worksop organized by ABIM Health Bureau.

CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It's a rescue and basic life-support technique for someone whose heart or breathing has stopped. It's also an organized approach for assessing and handling this type of medical emergency. When the heart stops beating or breathing stops, the first few minutes are critical in saving a life or preventing severe, permanent damage. CPR can keep a person alive until an ambulance and medical treatment is available. Also included in the workshop is a knowledge how to handle various types of medicine and CPR practical.
